Dear Chicago Commons Community,
June and July mark important moments for our organization as we say farewell to a fiscal / program year and say hello to a new year.
The same sentiment extends to our Board of Directors. I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our outgoing Board Chair Steven Sparks and Board Member Torrence Hinton. Their dedication over a combined 22 years of service have significantly advanced our mission, and we deeply appreciate your contributions.
As we say farewell, we are also excited to welcome our new board slate chaired by Ronald G. Kaminski. Ron who has been on the board for 12 years and most recently served as vice chair of the board. Ron is joined by two new board members, Virxhini Gjonzeneli and Victoria Lakes-Battle. Their expertise and fresh perspectives will be valuable assets to our organization.

Virxhini Gjonzeneli
Virxhini Gjonzeneli has over 18 years of experience in the financial industry. Virxhini currently holds the position of Chief Financial Officer at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, a role she has held since January 2023. “I am honored to join the board and contribute to Chicago Commons. Together, we will strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.” -Virxhini Gjonzeneli
Vickie Lakes-Battle
For over 30 years, Vickie Lakes-Battle has been a leader in commercial and mission-based lending, equitably serving communities through time, proximity, and authentic partnerships. Known as a master connector, Vickie builds strategic alliances that strengthen relationships, systems, and equity. As IFF’s first Executive Director for the Chicago Metro region, Vickie oversees lending, real estate consulting, and community strategies, focusing on cooperative engagement and active partnerships. She is a trusted advisor to community-based organizations, the community development sector, and philanthropy. “I am excited to join the board of this wonderful organization and contribute to its mission of making a positive impact in our community.” –Vickie Lakes-Battle
