Congratulations to Lorena Hernandez, a Paulo Freire Center parent, on her acceptance into Instituto College’s Associate Degree in Nursing Program. Lorena, a certified nursing assistant (CNA), has been working toward her goal of becoming a registered nurse since April 2024.
A big shoutout to Francisca Garcia, Mara Silva, and Deisi Villar, all parents from the Paulo Freire Family Center, and Mikela Manning, a Nia Family Center parent, who are continuing their child development coursework at City Colleges of Chicago. Their determination to further their education is truly inspiring, and we’re thrilled to support them on their journey.
At Chicago Commons, our post-secondary coordinator provides personalized college and career advising to meet parents where they are in their journey – whether it’s through the Pathways for Parents program; working with our partners:Instituto del Progreso Latino, PODER, YWCA; or exploring other career interests. All parents have access to Family Hub coaching services and are invited to join our bi-weekly student-parent group for additional support.
